At the heart of Space Shanty is Bemmie the Ratronaut, Bristol’s first Space Rat. From stowing away on Bristol’s ships to exploring distant planets, Bemmie shares his journey through video screens, audio snippets, and augmented reality, offering a glimpse into his interplanetary escapades and introducing visitors to space-themed shanties. The event rans across six weeks to coincide with the school’s summer break, celebrating the city’s maritime heritage, while uncovering its less-known connection to the cosmo Hosted by local experiences company Yuup, Space Shanty transformed&nbsp; Bristol’s most iconic harbourside venues into a maze of interactive installations, digital artworks, and historical artefacts. Space Shanty included a hands-on making area and interactive elements, allowing visitors to fully immerse themselves in this celestial experience. Commissioned by Dreamy Place&nbsp; The piece was developed by D-UNIT directors. Megan Broadmeadow&nbsp; (original concept, lead deisgn. Writer of storyline,&nbsp; video director and editor) Edward Metcalf ( Lead tehcnical design, Interactive spatial design and technical installation) D-UNIT then built the experience with recycled materials sourced from around Bristol and with van loads of cardboard from Children’s Scrapstore! commissioned: Josh Elwell to design, make and operate Bemmie.&nbsp; Richard Higgs built the Puppets sets and filmed Bemmie in action. Chapter 5 – Professor Bemmie With dreams of space exploration, Bemmie has studied hard and become a brilliant scientist. Help him to gather all the necessary items and inventions needed for his incredible journey to the stars. Chapter 6 - Flying around the StarsTake control of this fancy rocket designed by Elon Mousk! Make sure you wear the headset to hear Bemmie giving you a guided tour of the planets and objects in space! Chapter 7- Ratronaut Bemmie Watch Bemmie flying inside his rocket.&nbsp; It's a complicated job and he needs your help to keep flying! Interact with the musical buttons on his control desk to help him flying into deep space.. Chapter 8 – Planet Bedmo Bemmie now lives on a far away planet and he’s excited to see you here! Step into the Space House, find the green screen and float alongside him in zero gravity! What does he have to tell you about&nbsp; life on the far side of the galaxy? Chapter 9 - Time for Tea Inside this sweet bedroom there's a tiny rocket, just big enough for Bemmie. Listen closely to hear his mum singing a lullaby, then wait to see Bemmie playing. It will evolve over the weekend as the audience at Green Man interact with it. It is the beginning of a major new and previously unseen body of work, the first time a UK artist has used hologram fan technology in their work. Wales is a landscape filled with myth and legend, stories about shape shifting beings and superstitious beliefs form the heart of its culture. In the Mabinogi fictional powerful women made of flowers can turn people into animals, whilst in reality until the late middle ages witches were practising without persecution. Today our philosophers write on the ‘magic’ of technology, and the potential of human/ tech hybrids walking the earth. Megan asks what happens when the old meet the new? The soundtrack is a combination of poem by Broadmeadow and fragments from one of the most important historical text's in the Welsh language, Llyfr Taliesin. The narrator (who assumes the consciousness of the viewer), speaks of their mortality, and offers the potential for transmutation in another realm. Malaphors have created an artwork that responds to the imminent re-opening of Chapter; a greeting and invitation for the people of Cardiff and Wales to cross the threshold of the building once more. Chalkydri are angelic creatures who intone messages to the birds, signalling the beginning of the dawn chorus. The tableaux invokes a rich world of magic-infused symbolism that references a new chapter in the way that we communicate and see our world, and others beyond; a focus on the hope of new beginnings. The central figure, is the Iris goddess, who in Greek Mythology exists at the centre of the rainbow. In Y Canu Chalkydri she is nurturing a mystical ecosystem and guiding the life force surrounding her. Gender-fluid Cherubim - part human, part cloud - extol a message of glee and optimism towards a shifting and evolving society.
